Learning from Home

4th May 2020

Dear Parents and Children,

This is the start of our summer term in school and while we would all love to be back in our classrooms teaching and learning we are still not sure when this will happen so we are trying new ways of teaching and learning from a distance.

For the moment, this website is our main platform for communicating what we would like the children to learn. As we are a Junior school we are relying on you the parents to help engage your child with the learning opportunities on the website.

Every week or two weeks the teachers will upload some work suggestions to the website. You will find this on the menu- click Classes tab, then Home Learning, then choose the Class your child is in. You can open or download the document for the week/fortnight.

Every day choose 2 or 3 activities to do with your child. Some things you can do every day like reading or sounds and make it part of your daily routine. Some people like to spread them out between morning and afternoon, some people like to get it all done in the morning. Remember to keep the activities short; about 15 mins for the little ones, and 25-35 mins for 1st and 2nd- you can judge yourself by the level of engagement. Movement breaks; like a short walk, trampolining, or a song or nursery rhyme are great ways to break up activities. Some days, you might all just need a break from it and that is fine too!

Don't forget to look at our daily challenge too scrolling on the top of the screen- these can be part of your learning or used as a reward activity when the hard stuff gets finished. We hope to give out all workbooks also when the restrictions are lifted- we will be in touch when this can happen.

Children will feel more motivated if they can get some feedback from their teachers. That is why we set up a new email address for a chance to have two way communications. kids@stphilipsjns.ie

If your child would like to share work/activity that they have done, with their teacher, ask a question, or just say hello, they can send a message to the above email address.

For parents yourselves, check the website regularly for updates- we will post sample timetables, news from the parish, mindfulness and well-being activities. If you have a question for me directly or would like a phone call please send me an email at philip.the.apostle.jns@gmail.com

I will do my best to get back to you. We are working as a team here in St. Philips and will do our best to support you and your family during these challenging times.

Le gach dea guí, With every good blessing,

Eimear Igoe

**Everyone who booked a place at Easter camp will be fully refunded when we are back to school.**

Thank you to all the children and parents that have sent us pictures and videos of what they have been getting up to at home :) We have selected some of them for our gallery. Keep them coming in; It is a great way to share with your friends and teachers what you have been doing. email kids@stphilipsjns.ie
