Friday Fun Day

22nd Jan 2021

Well done everyone on all the wonderful work that you’ve been doing this week on SeeSaw and at home. All the staff of St. Philip’s are delighted to have such hard-working children (and parents) and we want to say a BIG thank you to you all.

Hip, Hip Hurray! It’s Friday Fun Day again and we have some very fun activities for you and your families to try out today or over the weekend. Lots of classes have been learning about winter over the past two weeks, so our Friday Fun Day activities are based on winter.

We love seeing how you get on with the activities so don’t forget that you can send photos or videos to your teacher using the SeeSaw app or send a message to kids@stphilipsjns.ie

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Active

  • It’s been a busy week so take some time to stretch and move with a Cosmic Yoga Winter Wonderland adventure: Cosmic Yoga on YouTube

  • Go to the school website to look at the video from our friend Amanda from St. Peregrine's. In the videos Amanda shows us how to practise our GAA and ball-handling skills.

  • Have a go at the Winter Workout Challenge:

W is for walks like a polar bear

I am igloo building, squat to pick up your ice blocks

N is for nine lunges both left and right

T is for ten big snowflake jumps

E is for enormous sit-ups

R is for running on the spot to keep warm in winter!

  • The Snowball Target Challenge! Don’t worry if you have no snow, maybe you could use rolled-up socks or cotton wool balls. Try to throw your “snowball” into a box, bin or basket. How many hit the target in 1 minute? Move further away to make it trickier.
  • If your “snowballs” haven’t melted (!) maybe you could have a snowball fight.

Story

  • Listen to one of the winter stories:

The Snow Lady by Shirley Hughes - The SnowLady on YouTube

Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter by Kenard Pak - Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter on YouTube

Jack Frost by Kazuno Kohara - Jack frost on YouTube

  • Listen to this song and enjoy the winter photos along with the video. They might give you some ideas for our art challenge below.

Winter Song by Sara Barilles & Ingrid Michaelson
